The Agona West NPP Constituency Chairman, Gibrine Tanko, has been summoned by the party’s General Secretary after failing to honor an invitation to defend his failed attempt to suspend the party’s 2024 parliamentary candidate.
Alhaji Tanko and the constituency Secretary Anthony Kwame Kum suspended Lawyer Christopher Arthur, a staunch supporter of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid, which has roundly been condemned by other executives and supporters in the constituency.
The embattled chairman has been accused of failing to follow due process in his actions.
Meanwhile, six of his executive members have disclaimed the suspension, stating that no decision was made to suspend Mr. Arthur or Rigs Mohammed at any meeting.
As a result, NPP’s General Secretary, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, invited Gibrine Tanko to the party headquarters in Accra to explain why he issued the suspension letter without adhering to the party’s rules and procedures.
Tanko failed to appear citing his wife’s illness, after the party waited for several hours until 12:30 pm on Thursday, July 17, Newstitbits.com gathered.
The national party has given him until 11:30 am tomorrow, Friday, July 18, to appear and substantiate his actions, which have caused negative press and division within the party.
We cannot readily ascertain which of the 3 wives of the 37 year old constituency chairman was sick and at which hospital he has taken her for treatment for that reason he was unable to honour the invitation. Efforts to reach him on phone was not successful.
