Constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Agona West have vehemently rejected the purported suspension of the party’s 2024 parliamentary candidate, Lawyer Christopher Arthur, by the constituency chairman.
In a press release jointly signed by six executives, the group described the action taken by the Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, as null and void, insisting that it did not follow due process.
According to the statement, no formal meeting or disciplinary procedure involving the elected executives was held prior to the announcement of the suspension. The executives further emphasized that the chairman acted unilaterally and without the consent of the constituency’s functional executives, thereby breaching party protocols.
“We state clearly and unequivocally that no such decision has been made by the Constituency Executive Committee in any meeting.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Agona West NPP Executive Committee has not suspended Mr. Christopher Arthur, Esq. and Rigs Mohammed, contrary to the mischievous circulation of such by some individuals,” the statement issued on Wednesday, July 15, 2025 said.
They further accused the chairman of causing unnecessary tension and disunity within the party in the constituency at a crucial time when unity is essential for a strong campaign going into the 2028 general elections.
Interestingly, one Anthony Kwame Kum who is also known as Ato Preko who co-signed the disputed suspension letter as is himself said to be facing a disciplinary action for allegedly working against the party’s interest in the 2024 general elections.
“We call on the National and Regional party executives to take immediate and serious action against him and all those involved in this unreasonable misconduct, which seeks to create divisions within the party.
“The Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, should also be called to order to prevent potential harm to the party.”
The executives therefore asked the general public to disregard any public communication suggesting that Chris Arthur had been suspended.
The statement was jointly signed by:
Patience Abban, Mrs. — Assistant Secretary
David Essandoh — Constituency Organizer
Haruna Rasheed Osman – Nasara Coordinator
Nana Kwame Agyei – Research and Elections Officer
Suiley Yahaya — Deputy Nasara Coordinator
Idriss Ali Musah — Deputy Youth Organizer
This latest development adds a new twist to internal party dynamics in Agona West.
