A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Chris Arthur, has issued a strong call for disciplinary action against the party’s National Treasurer, Dr. Charles Dwamena, popularly known as “Dr. China,” over what he describes as gross misconduct and a blatant violation of the party’s constitution.
In a strongly worded statement, Lawyer Arthur condemned Dr. Dwamena’s recent public comments on Peace FM, where he openly criticized a decision taken by the party’s National Council— NPP’s second-highest decision-making body—a decision he reportedly participated in.
According to Arthur, Dr. Dwamena’s conduct violates Article 3(5) of the NPP Constitution, which mandates members to:
- Promote and defend the Party’s good name;
- Protect the unity of the Party;
- Remain loyal and truthful;
- Uphold Party decisions publicly.
“It is utterly unacceptable for a national officer like Dr. Charles Dwamena to publicly criticize a National Council decision on radio. His actions constitute gross misconduct and blatant disrespect to the Party’s second-highest decision-making body,” Arthur stated.
He described Dr. Dwamena’s behavior as not only reckless but also a dangerous precedent that threatens party unity and discipline.
Chris Arthur, the NPP’s 2024 parliamentary candidate for Agona West, emphasized the need for swift sanctions to serve as a deterrent to other members who may consider undermining internal structures.
During his appearance on Peace FM at 8:30 PM, Dr. Dwamena reportedly accused the National Council of acting against the party’s interests by scheduling the presidential candidate elections for January 31, 2026. He went further to suggest that he would work to overturn the decision at a future delegates’ conference — a claim Arthur dismissed as constitutionally ignorant and misleading.
Arthur pointed out that Article 13(2)(6) of the NPP Constitution clearly states: “The National Executive Committee, consulting with the National Council, shall govern presidential candidate election rules and conduct.”
This provision, he stressed, gives full authority to the National Council and Executive Committee in such matters, rendering Dr. Dwamena’s threat to challenge the decision at a delegates’ conference both baseless and harmful.
“Dr. Dwamena’s statements only sow confusion, division, and unnecessary tension within the Party. He appears oblivious to our constitution, and his conduct is unbecoming of a national officer,” Arthur said.
He concluded by urging party leadership to take decisive disciplinary action to uphold the integrity of the NPP and reaffirm the authority of its governing bodies.
“We must act decisively to protect our Party’s integrity, unity, and authority. Dr. Dwamena must be sanctioned,” Arthur insisted.
As internal discussions heat up ahead of the NPP’s presidential primary, the call for accountability is likely to deepen debate within party ranks about discipline, transparency, and the role of public commentary in shaping internal decisions.
