The Church of Pentecost, the largest Pentecostal group in Ghana, has paid a glowing tribute to its former Chairman, Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy.
Apostle Ntumy, who was among about 36 ministers of the church who retired from active ministry this year, died in the early hours of today, Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
He was the fourth Chairman of The Church of Pentecost that has presence in over 151 countries.
“Apostle Dr. Ntumy peacefully went to be with the Lord in the early hours of today, 27th December, 2023,” the General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi announced in a statement few hours after his demise.
“Apostle A. Ntumy was not only a revered man of God but also an inspirational leader. His commitment to the things of God was unparalleled, and his contributions to our church and community were significant,” the statement noted.
It added, “He left an indelible mark on everyone who had the good fortune of crossing paths with him.
“We are deeply indebted to him for his selfless services, leadership, and tireless dedication to spreading God’s Word.”
In the “spirit of compassion and empathy”, the statement by the church, called on the general public to respect the privacy of the family as “they navigate through their grief”.
Apostle Ntumy was known to have survived many challenges which include being held hostage in rebel territory (Liberian Civil War-1990’s), attacks on his life ranging from physical assaults to poisoning and paralysis leading to his confinement to a wheelchair.
Apostle Dr. Kwabena Ntumy was a great writer who authored several books. He was even the Director of Literary Works of The Church of Pentecost.
After serving for 2 terms (10 years) as the Chairman of the Church, he handed over to Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah in 2008.
He was born in 1958 at Dadieso, Oti Region, Ghana. He was survived by wife Martha Ntumy and six children.
