The Ministry of the Interior has clarified that Friday, November 8, 2024, will not be recognized as a public holiday in Ghana.
Due to the December 7 general elections, the celebration of the 40th National Farmers’ Day was brought forward to November 8, 2024, but a statement signed by Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, emphasized that public holiday status remains designated for the December observance, not the early celebration on November 8.
“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 8th November 2024, is NOT a Public Holiday even though the 2024 National Farmers’ Day will be observed on that day.
“However, Friday, 6th December 2024, which marks Farmers’ Day, remains a Statutory Public Holiday and will be observed as such throughout the country,” the sector minister observed in a statement on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
This announcement follows a statement from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture detailing plans for the National Farmers’ Day celebration on November 8.
This year’s event will be held in the Greater Accra Region, specifically at the Alisa Hotel, North Ridge. The celebration marks a significant occasion, recognizing the efforts and contributions of Ghanaian farmers to the nation’s agriculture and economy.
While the central celebration is set in Accra, there will be no regional Farmers’ Day celebrations across the country. However, each region will still participate by nominating winners in 10 regional award categories, who will travel to Accra for the Awards Night Ceremony.
Scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on November 8 at the Alisa Hotel, this event will see honorees receive awards presented by their respective Regional Ministers.
The Ministry has also requested the presence of all Regional Ministers and their Regional Directors of Agriculture at the ceremony, with costs to be covered by the Regional Coordinating Councils.
“Your presence and support will play a vital role in celebrating and recognising the invaluable contributions of our farmers to national development,” the Ministry added.
