Thursday, April 11, 2024, has been declared as a public holiday by the Ministry of the Interior to commemorate Eid-ul-Fitr, a religious festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide.
In a statement signed by the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, confirmed the statutory holiday.
“The general public is hereby informed that Thursday, 11th April, 2024 which marks Eid-ul-Fitr, is a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement noted.
Eid-ul-Fitr is calculated in accordance with the sighting of the new moon by the Saudi Arabia moon-sighting committee and is typically announced by local Mosques.
Eid-ul-Fitr, also known as the ‘Festival of Breaking Fast’ is the first of two Eids in the Islamic calendar and is typically celebrated after the Muslim fasting month, known as Ramadan.
