The Tema-based Delhi Public School International (DPSI) has over the weekend, held the 2018 edition of its annual funfair. About 2,500 students attended the fair, with teachers and parents as well as journalists, and some lucky participants walking home with fantastic prizes on the night. In all, 52 prizes were won after a raffle draw which saw two persons winning Emirates Airlines return tickets to Dubai, with others walking away with Samsung Galaxy smartphone, iPhone, LG LED television, microwaves, cash, dinner tickets, among other mouth-watering souvenirs. The overall winner was Ashok Kumar Amin who took home an Emirates Airlines return ticket for Dubai. Students from the various departments together with their parents, teachers and authorities of the school engaged in several sporting and recreational activities during the event which was sponsored by B5 Plus, Emirates Airlines, Ecobank, Access Bank, Binatone, among a host of other corporate institutions. There was also a unique unity walk, with the students raising national flags of countries like Iraq, North Korea, India, Ghana, Nigeria, China, United States of America (USA) in a demonstration of their unity. The fair was equally an occasion to showcase the talents that exist within DPSI, with students displaying their singing, modelling, dancing, public speaking abilities to an ecstatic audience made up of the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, and Director of DPSI, Mukesh Thakwani. It was a fantastic sight to behold especially when Mr Thakwani, an Indian business tycoon, took penalty kicks together with his son, Vishal Thakwani. An excited Sam George, in a brief address during the event, said it was refreshing to note that the school took extracurricular activities seriously. He commended the school for the manner in which it had trained its students academically which has helped DPSI to win many international awards. He spoke about the high level of unity existing in the school which has over 700 students from 28 countries across the world, saying the level of unity in the school was worthy of commendation. He urged the students to take their education seriously for a successful future. Mr Thakwani, speaking to the media on the sidelines of the occasion, said the funfair was growing bigger and better each year. He said what distinguished DPSI from other learning institutions was its ability to build the confidence level of its students through such extracurricular activities. DPSI Tema Honours Brilliant Students In a related development, Delhi Public School International has once again rewarded some of its students in recognition of their academic excellence. On Thursday, May 17, 2018, authorities of the school presented medals and certificates to top five students in each class beginning from Class 1 to A-Level making it twelve classes in all. Some of the awardees were Larry Tetteh, Debora R.H. Ruban, Srinivagan Balaji, Rutuja, Sedinam and Ellen Donkar. Director of DPSI Tema, Mukesh Thakwani in a statement at a short but colourful ceremony to present the awards said the purpose of the awards was to encourage the students “to create a healthy competition amongst themselves” and to inspire them to achieve better grades in both their academic and extracurricular activities. DPSI has over the years consistently presented its students with such awards as a way of encouraging them to take their academic and extracurricular activities seriously. It would be recalled that in October 2017, the school honoured a total of 52 of its students. About 19 of those students were awarded certificates for excelling in the Model United Nations (MUN) event held by the Tema International School (TIS) in that year. Gold, bronze and silver medals were also given out to about 32 students in October in recognition of their brilliant performance in the 2017 edition of the Streamline Aquatics Limited (SAL) Swim Series held at the Tesano Sports Club. He seized the opportunity to urge the students to continue to take their academic works seriously, disclosing that a series of extracurricular events such as a sporting tournament, spelling bee competition, among others, have been lined up for the year. In attendance at the ceremony were faculty members and Headmaster of DPSI Tema, David Raj, who could not hide his excitement about the way his students continue to excel in their studies. About DPSI Ghana DPSI Ghana was founded in September 2010 by renowned Indian industrialist and philanthropist, Mukesh Thakwani, under the aegis of Delhi Public School – a chain of schools all around the globe known for its holistic education. The mission of Mr Thakwani has always been to champion the cause of education in the West African sub-region, by providing a world-class educational system. DPS International, Ghana is affiliated to the University of Cambridge International Examinations and Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi (CBSE). Source: 3news.com | Ghana]]>
