The electorate at Teberebie electoral area in Tarkwa, Western Region, made a strong statement on Tuesday as they re-elected their deceased Assemblyman Mr. Manasseh Addison Sackey for another term.
The 34-year-old teacher who was seeking re-election died on Monday, December 4, 2023.
The late assemblyman reportedly drowned in a river connecting Aklika.
Manasseh Addison Sackey, popularly known as Teacher Obour, a teacher at Teberebie M/A Junior High School was on his way to campaign in nearby villages.
By way of appreciating his dedication and contributions to the development of the area, the residents decided to posthumously reward him with another term.
Teacher Obour secured 860 votes in Tuesday, December 19 District Assembly Elections.
His closest contender, Benard Obeng, followed closely with 857 votes.
Teacher Obuor was wearing Wellington boots with five others on board a canoe when it capsized in the middle of the river.
Three others came back to report that Manasseh and the other gentleman had drowned.
A search team was sent, only for them to find the lifeless body of Manasseh Addison Sackey hours later.
Interestingly, the former assembly member in the same electoral area, who was Manasseh’s competitor, also died in a similarly way two weeks before the elections four years ago.
