The Christmas story is packed with many deep lessons about the ways of God. It’s amazing how God often disguises His greatest acts in cloaks of ordinariness.
About 700 years before the birth of Christ, it was prophesied by Prophet Micah that the Savior will be born in Bethlehem.
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” (Micah 5:2)
The length of time between this prophecy and its fulfillment will make it seem the prophecy never came to pass, at least to the people who heard it.
Now, fast forward to the fulfillment of the prophecy.
“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.” (Luke 2:1)
It was this census, not a prophetic direction or any supernatural revelation, that sent Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem for the prophecy to be fulfilled.
Let’s drive this home now. When we are dealing with God, we must be attentive to recognize His moves in the seemingly mundane ordinariness of our daily lives.
Sometimes, there may be no open visions or “spectacular events” but God may be working through the simple things. May God help you to recognize that you’re on a trip to the fulfillment of His great plan for your life.
