The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) says it is “extremely concerned” about the presence of sub-standard electrical cables on the Ghanaian market. “This is because sub-standard electrical products, like other sub standard consumer goods, poses a danger to the health and safety of consumers and also threatens the environment,” the Authority said in a statement Monday. The Authority in accordance with section 3(2)(e) of the Standards Authority Act, 1973 (NRCD 173) and regulation 8 and 9 of LI 1541 conducted market surveillance on electrical cables across the Country aimed at ensuring that specific products imported into the Ghanaian market meet the requirements of  Standards to protect health and  safety. According to the GSA, a number of products sampled during the exercise failed the requirement of the critical parameter tests and labeling test. CHECK LIST OF FAILED PRODUCTS HERE The Authority said it is taking the companies through the necessary action to address specific issues identified with their products in accordance with law.
