43-year-old Nana Yaw Sarpong Serebour from the Ashanti Region has been adjudged the overall National Best Farmer for 2022.
The farmer based in the Juaben district was celebrated at the just ended 38th Farmers’ Day celebrations held at the Jubilee Park of the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua on December 2 under the theme; “Accelerating agricultural development through value addition”.
This year’s best farmer has a 900-acre oil palm plantation, 200-acres of maize, over 17, 000 poultry birds, as well as several livestock and acres of cocoa, cassava cashew, mango and cowpea farms, with a total workforce of 145.
The mixed crop and livestock farmer takes home GH₵1,000,000 and two night all-expense paid stay for two at the Peduase Valley Resort.
Mr Serebour owes about 900 acres of oil palm plantation, 65 acres of cocoa plantation, 36 acres of cowpea, 37 acres of cassava plantation, and also breeds cattle, sheep and goats in the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Adjei Fosu Seth from Kintampo North emerged as the first runner up. For his prize, he took home a tractor, trailer, disc plough and boom sprayer.
Professor Akwasi Asabere Ameyaw, also a mixed-farmer based in the Techiman-North of the Brong-East Region, emerged as the Second Runner Up and was given a tractor with implements.
A total of 15 awards were given at this year’s ceremony. The other categories included the National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Crop Farmer, Overall National Best Fisher, National Best Marine Fisher, National Best Inland Fisher, National Best Fisher Farmer, and National Best Fish Processor.
The national best female farmer went to Yaa Adjeley from Wassa. She received a cash prize of GHS100,000 and a study tour of Ghana.
The overall national best fisher went to Alex Cudjoe from Elmina in the Central region. He received a double cabin truck.
Christiana Modzifa from West Gonja was the first runner-up and received a modified tricycle, outboard motor, deep freezer and a 44-inch television.
Clement Addai Anokye from Kyebi came in as the second runner-up. He received a modified tricycle, outboard motor and a deep freezer.
Other winners included Joyce Dapaah who was crowned most enterprising female farmer, Peter Painstil as national most promising young cocoa farmer, and Bobie Akutusi as national best sheer nut picker.
